A Bit of Behind-the-Scenes

This was the most fun I’ve ever had behind the mic. Recording the efforts was a vocal playground! Efforts are non-verbal vocalizations (grunts, gasps, sighs, screams) created to simulate a character’s physical exertion or distress. I barked like a dog, made swallowing, gurgling, growling, gasping sounds for the monster, and played a whole range of ideas for Ms. Davis. They require full-body engagement. Brian Tanner gave me the prompts for each effort he had identified. It appeals to the improviser in me to follow the acting impulse so immediately. The variety of efforts for Fairy Godnephew (A Magical Adventure) was a pure delight.
